Combination of an sulfonamide antimicrobial (sulfacetamide) and an antimicrobial and keratolytic agent (sulfur)
Used to treat acne rosacea, acne vulgaris, and seborrheic dermatitis
Widespread historical use in dermatology, but not formally evaluated by the FDA for clinical efficacy or safety.

Indicated in the topical control of acne vulgaris and rosacea

For the adjunctive treatment of acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, and seborrheic dermatitis.

Hypersensitivity to sulfa drugs

  • Local irritation
  • Pruritus
  • Erythema
  • Itching
  • Edema

External use only

Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes

Avoid UV exposure

Discontinue if excessive skin irritation develops

Severe reactions including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, fulminant hepatic necrosis, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, and other blood dyscrasias reported

Pregnancy Category: C

Lactation: Unknown whether excreted in breast milk, use caution

Adults

3 applications/day for creams, gels, lotions, and foam; 2 applications/day for washes and cleansers.

Geriatric

3 applications/day for creams, gels, lotions, and foam; 2 applications/day for washes and cleansers.

Adolescents

3 applications/day for creams, gels, lotions, and foam; 2 applications/day for washes and cleansers.

Children
