Analgesics, NSAID/Opioid Combos

Combination product used to treat moderate to severe pain. Aspirin is an acetylated salicylate analgesic; oxycodone is an opiate analgesic. The combination produces a greater analgesic effect than either drug alone.

Indicated for the treatment of severe pain requiring an opioid analgesic and for which alternative treatments are inadequate.

Hypersensitivity

Oxycodone

Any situation where opioids are contraindicated including significant respiratory depression (in unmonitored settings or the absence of resuscitative equipment), acute or severe bronchial asthma or hypercarbia

Suspected or known paralytic ileus

Aspirin

Reye Syndrome: Aspirin should not be used in children or teenagers for viral infections, with or without fever, because of the risk of Reye syndrome

Known allergy to NSAIDs

Syndrome of asthma, rhinitis, and nasal polyps

Tachycardia

Palpitation

Urinary hesitancy or retention

Dry mouth

Blurred vision

Dilated pupils

Increased intraocular tension

Weakness

Nausea

Vomiting

Headache

Dizziness

Constipation

Drowsiness

Urticaria (rare)

Other dermatosis (rare)

Confusion in elderly individuals (infrequent)

Mild central excitation and occasional hallucinations

Cases of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition, reported with concomitant use of serotonergic drugs; this may occur within the recommended dosage range; the onset of symptoms generally occur within several hours to a few days of concomitant use, but may occur later than that; discontinue therapy immediately if serotonin syndrome is suspected

Therapy may cause severe hypotension including orthostatic hypotension and syncope in ambulatory patients

Pregnancy; Use of NSAIDs can cause premature closure of fetal ductus arteriosus and fetal renal dysfunction leading to oligohydramnios and, in some cases, neonatal renal impairment

Lactation; Safety during lactation has not been established

Adults

3,900 mg/day PO aspirin and 58 mg/day PO oxycodone hydrochloride.

Geriatric

3,900 mg/day PO aspirin and 58 mg/day PO oxycodone hydrochloride.

Infants
